How To Consign

Preparing Your Consignment

Beginning at our new location, consignments will be dropped off for review rather than reviewed while you wait. This allows us to give each consignment a more thorough review while keeping drop-off times quick and convenient.

Taking a few minutes to prepare your items beforehand helps us process them more efficiently and get accepted items on the shelves faster.

To help us process your items efficiently, please:

  • Remove personal name labels and stickers if you're able.
  • Keep curriculum sets together, and check that games, puzzles, manipulatives, science kits, and other multi-piece educational materials are complete.
  • Remove loose papers, bookmarks, and other miscellaneous items.
  • Bring clean, gently used homeschool materials in good condition.
  • Make sure both your items and the boxes, bins, bags, or other containers they are brought in are clean and free of insects or other signs of pests.

Drop-Off & Review

At drop-off, we will perform a brief visual check for obvious signs of insects, pests, mold, moisture, or other conditions that could affect store inventory. This initial check does not mean that all items have been accepted for consignment.

Items will be reviewed more thoroughly after drop-off based on condition, completeness, edition, current demand, current retail value, and our existing inventory levels. Curriculum and educational materials with writing, highlighting, completed pages, or incomplete components may still be considered and will be evaluated individually.

We are unable to accept photocopied materials, printed PDF or downloadable curriculum, counterfeit materials, publisher-marked “Not for Resale” copies, or items with mold, signs of water or smoke damage, insect or pest activity, excessive wear, or missing essential components.

For the protection of our inventory, consignments showing signs of insects, pests, mold, moisture, or other contamination may be declined at drop-off without being opened or individually reviewed.

Declined Items

At the time of drop-off, you will be asked to choose how you would like us to handle any items we are unable to accept:

  • Return declined items: We will notify you after your consignment has been reviewed. Declined items must be picked up within 14 days of notification.
  • Donate or dispose of declined items: You may authorize Homeschool Book Smart at the time of drop-off to donate or dispose of any items we are unable to accept.

Declined items that are not picked up within 14 days of notification will be considered abandoned and may be donated or disposed of by Homeschool Book Smart.

Accepted items are priced based on condition, completeness, edition, current retail value, market demand, and current inventory levels.
